If your child with special needs is feeling stressed out, do not panic. It is usual for them to feel stressed, and that is okay. As of right now, you are probably wondering how you can help your special needs child treat and positively reduce their stress. We’re here to help by recommending these five activities to help your child with special needs reduce stress.

Take a Break and Explore Nature

Your child might be stressed out with school or even life at home. Sometimes it is something that they do not understand. Encourage your child to take a field trip to a nearby park and explore nature. By exploring nature, you allow your child’s mind to relax, even under the hardest stress. Being out in nature is a great activity, especially if the nature preserve has a park where your child can free play for a while. Going to a park will encourage children to let go of the world for a moment.

Play Some Music

Instrumental music of any kind has proven to increase focus and relieve stress. Doing this will help clear the child’s mind and even help them relax for a while. Once your child feels ready to take on the next task, encourage them to continue listening to the music to help them feel relaxed while working.

Try Yoga and Deep Breathing Exercises

Doing some fun stretches will not only stretch muscles, but they will help when your child feels stressed out. Deep breathing exercises help as well. Practicing slow, deep breaths with them will help ease the stress. Discuss with them what’s on their mind and why they might be feeling stressed.

Sit Down in a Chair

Sitting down helps as well. Sometimes a child may want to sit on a swing or rocking chair to help them soothe their emotions. The slow rocking will help ease them. If your child appears anxious, offer to sit with them or have them sit on your lap while rocking.

Create a Quiet Space

Sometimes, children will want to go somewhere quiet to collect their thoughts. A special needs child may run away and hide because they might not understand what feeling it is that has them hiding out. Make a special area dedicated to them for when they want to be alone. Try out a tent and fill it with some favorite toys or books that your child can turn to when they feel stressed.

Each child is unique. Some might not enjoy these activities as much as other children, and that is okay. Keep searching for different ways to encourage your child to help reduce their stress levels. Also, try out these five activities to help your special needs child reduce stress.
