If you are compassionate, patient, and enjoy making other people feel happy, you might be perfectly suited for a job in the care sector. However, if you are interested in working in the care sector, it can be very useful to find out more about the types of jobs. The more you find out about the range of jobs on offer in the care sector, the better you will be to find the right position for you.

Care Home Manager

If you enjoy taking care of people, but also have a mind for administration and finance, you might be perfectly suited for a care home manager position. As a care home manager, your day-to-day work will consist of supporting your staff, your residents, and their families, monitoring business performance and quality of care, budgeting, recruiting, and training staff, and ensuring wellbeing throughout the care home. Those looking to find work as a care home manager should have a degree and will benefit from completing a Healthcare Administration MBA.

Counselor

If you are a good listener, sensitive, and have good verbal communication skills, you might want to consider a career as a counselor. In this role, you will build open, trusting relationships with your clients, help them to talk about their feelings, and help your clients find better ways of coping with challenges. To become a certified counselor, you will need to complete the necessary training. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field like psychology is useful but not necessary.

It is not unusual for counselors to specialize; this means that focusing your practice on a particular age group or challenge. For example, you could choose to specialize in children or people who are struggling with addiction.

Become a Foster Carer

Foster carers love to look after children and young people who are not able to live at home any longer. This can be a challenging role, as you will have to open your home to children that might be at a very difficult point in their lives, but it can also be hugely rewarding. You will need to empathize, stay calm in stressful situations, be flexible, be opened to change and work well under pressure.

 

Home Health Aide

A home health aide is responsible for taking care of a patient within their home. Day-to-day jobs can include dressing, bathing, cooking, and housekeeping tasks. You might look after many different clients every day or become a live-in helper for people with more demanding needs in this position. You do not need a degree for this position, but you will have to complete specialized training.

Dietician

If you have a special interest in food and nutrition, you might want to consider becoming a registered dietician. The role of a dietician is to help patients by creating specialized dietary plans. For example, you might be working with patients that need to lose weight or have specific health conditions.

To become a dietician, you could go a University to study sciences in nutrition or complete a course to become a registered dietician. However, you will need to gain a certified qualification before you begin working.
