They are the people that choose to give their energy into helping a loved one, while also working a full or part-time job.  And while, caregiving can be one of the most compassionate undertakings, it can also be demanding. Therefore, caregivers need the opportunity to recharge and cope with the difficulties a loved one may be facing. With more than half of individuals caring for a loved one while also working, it has never been more important to recognize the problems associated with these difficult and tiring dual roles. The following are tips that may help you feel at peace and connected as you work and care for someone you love:

4 Tips for Longevity of Caregivers

The moment you become a caregiver for a loved one, your private life and relationships will change. You will need to have people around you that support and understand the situation. It will be important to openly share your feelings and emotions so you can balance your work life with your home life.

Tip One. First you will want to review your schedule, and do not forget the needs of your partner, friends, and family. Acknowledge that this path is not easy but once you have a plan, you will also likely feel better. Surround yourself with people who understand how you feel and support you as a caregiver.

Tip Two. Consider what you want to accomplish in the next few years and how your current job and role as a caregiver affects your dreams. Know your worth and do what makes you feel good about the decisions you make for your future. Also, having a plan is very good also for your partner and family. It is good to know where you want to go in life and see yourself in the following years. While you do not focus too much on the future; you will want to be sure that you know what you want.

Tip Three. After you have your plan for the next few years, be sure to give each day some time to accomplish your dreams. To be an effective caregiver, remember yourself and why you are here, what you want to do in your life. Be sure that you implement your plan and balance your work life with your home life.

Tip Four. Relaxation is the key to being successful caregiver. If you can detach from work and caregiving when you get home and calm your entire body, mind, and spirit, it will make you feel recharged. Caregiver wellness is essential. You might meditate each morning or evening for 15 minutes, practice some yoga, stretching, or walk in nature, the important thing is to remember that you need to take care of yourself.

As a caregiver, it is not uncommon to forget to care for yourself. Yet when you take care of others and forget about yourself, you will likely burn out. However, if you want your energy to be pure and radiate, you also need to relax. The following are tips you might use to relax before and after work:

4 Tips for Relaxation and Wellness

Tip One. Meditate in the morning and evening. You can practice breathing relaxation, visualization of a calming place, or some positive affirmations. Be sure that you give your mind some time for detachment and acceptance. Coping with events from your work or even private life can make you feel overwhelmed. Meditation can help you step into the present moment, accept, and let go of the things that are no longer good for you.

Tip Two. Take a salt bath each week. Staying 20-30 minutes in Epson salt each week can make you feel refreshed and reinvigorated. This salt is perfect for reducing stress, pain and is also suitable for your skin.

Tip Three. Walk-in nature each week. Spending time in nature will make you connect with yourself, help you open your intuition, and release all the stress and tension from your whole being.

Tip Four. Be sure to get adequate sunlight each day for at least 20 minutes. This will fill your body with energy and will help you feel calm.

Longevity as a caregiver often depends on the caregiver’s ability to access the support needed to care for a loved one. Don’t forget to reach out to your employer to identify and then access available resources. If the employer is not offering Caregiver Support Services which you feel would enhance your ability to be productive at work, you might advocate for supplemental supports.
